Welcome to Cambodia, Kingdom of wonder! Make your own way to the hotel. The rest of the day is free for you.
Today, you'll depart early to catch a spectacular sunrise at the temples of Angkor in Tuk Tuks. You'll then explore the fabulous jungle temples of Ta Prohm, the South Gate of Angkor Thom, Bayon, Baphuon and the Terrace of Elephants and Leper King.
Sunrise at Angkor Wat (B)
Get ready for a day of discovering magnificent temples! Depart at 4:30 am in the morning for the sunrise at the temples of Angkor in Tuk Tuks. The Angkor Archaeological Park is visually, architecturally, and artistically breath-taking and one of the most important archaeological sites in South-East Asia if not the world. Stretching over some 400 km2, including forested area, the park contains the magnificent remains of the different capitals of the Khmer Empire, from the 9th to the 15th century. You could spend weeks exploring the ruins, but on this day tour, you will have a chance to see all the highlights. You will arrive at the mystical Angkor Wat just in time to see the sun rise over the water and temples. Angkor Wat is one of mankind’s greatest achievements, and the intricate carvings at the temple of Angkor Wat demonstrate the skill of the Khmer builders. It was constructed in the jungle in the early 12th century, then - two centuries later - was mysteriously abandoned by the Khmer civilization. Now Angkor Wat is the main reason tourists come to visit Cambodia. After sunrise we’ll head to the fabulous jungle temple of Ta Prohm. Ta Prohm is particularly amazing in the early morning when all you can hear are the sounds of the jungle, before the crowds arrive. After Ta Prohm, you will visit the South Gate of Angkor Thom where you can take a quiet optional 1km walk along the wall and through the jungle to a hidden temple. Then visit the temples of Bayon, Baphuon and Terrace of Elephants and Leper King. After an exciting morning exploring, we’ll head back mid-afternoon, for a well-deserved rest or dip in the pool.
Today, you'll transfer to Phnom Penh by bus and arrive in the afternoon. Check in and enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure.
Travel to Phnom Penh (B)
Get ready for a day of traveling on the bus to Phnom Penh. Our tuk tuk driver will transfer you to the bus station at 10AM for your bus departure at 10:30AM. We will arrange your ticket for a minivan. Enjoy your trip through the Cambodian countryside and take some rest stops along the way. In the afternoon arrive at the bus station in Phnom Penh around 5pm and meet our tuk tuk driver who is ready to transfer you to check in your accommodation.
Discover the highlights of Phnom Penh on a full day tour that visits markets, the old French Quarter, Wat Phnom, old significant buildings and much more. Then, pay your respects to the dark history of the Cambodian Genocide with a visit to S21 and the Killing Fields.
Phnom Penh Living History (B)
At 8 am you will meet your tuk tuk driver (not a guide) at your hotel to start this unique tour, where you will discover and reveal Phnom Penh. Visit Phsar Kandal morning market and bite into all its delicacies and mouth-watering street-eats. Go to the old French Quarter, which is home to fine colonial architecture; some buildings gorgeously restored, others beautifully decaying. Move on to the Buddhist temple of Wat Phnom and understand the foundation on which Phnom Penh is built. Move through the city and pass Raffles Hotel, the old post building, the disused train station, and Cambodia’s largest market, Psah Thmei. You will have the chance to discover the market’s offerings from antique coins, gold and shoes to plastic goods, flowers, and food. After this city exploration, it is now time to pay respect to the dark history of the Cambodian Genocide by using our audio guide. From 1976 to 1979 the Khmer Rouge ruled Cambodia with their own form of ultra-Marxism, resulting in the deaths of millions and destruction of the country that can still be felt today. Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S-21) was once a high school and was converted into a detention and torture center during the Khmer Rouge regime. Tuol Sleng remains to remind and educate all people about this dark time in Cambodian history. After that, we then continue to visit another killing field called Cheung EK. After a full day tour, you will end your trip at your guesthouse, and the rest of the afternoon is free at your leisure.
*Note: An audio tour or audio guide provides a recorded spoken commentary, normally through a handheld device, to a visitor. This device will describe all the information and direct client where to go and see in Toul Sleng and Killing.
